Expanders

Expanders are devices which are used to lower pressures of gases by radial turbines (dissipating energy). When a high speed generator is attached to the turbine this energy can be recovered instead of dissipating it into the atmosphere. Since this energy is being wasted at most expansion sites, this is almost like perpetual energy.

Some of the uses for these radial expanders are:

  • Sites where the pressure of gases are letdown
  • Pipeline-to-pipeline pressure reduction stations
  • Excess gases form steam boiler and/or industrial gas supply systems
  • Where control valves or regulators are installed

Calnetix's Magnetic Power Drive (MPD) which is a high speed generator integrated with magnetic bearings offer the solution for all types of gas expansion projects. Since there is no wear and tear in a MPD system, some of the benefits are:

  • No need for gear box
  • No maintenance necessary
  • High efficiencies (over 97% overall)
  • No lubrication - oil free
  • Small size and weight
  • Reliable
  • Cost effective
