High Temperature Capabilities
Calnetix uses the latest in permanent magnet and insulation
materials. Calnetix is continuously working with leading magnet
and varnish manufacturers to increase the temperature capabilities
and other characteristics in its PM machines.
- The use of high strength Neodymium-Iron-Boron permanent
magnet material, with its lower per pound cost, is able
to operate up to 300°F.
- High temperature Samarium-Cobalt permanent magnet material
offers operation to 550°F.
For its high performance varnishes on the stator windings,
Calnetix utilizes H and above class varnishes which pushes
the rating temperatures well above 180°C. Most standard
motors are limited to temperatures below 160°C.
These operating limits are consistently explored during integration
of the system. Calnetix has developed in house analysis tools
tohelp optimize the motor and the system.
One great example of a high temperature application that
Calnetix currently produces, is a PM machine for gas turbine
systems. The turbine impellers, which operate at around 900°C,
are directly connected to the Calnetix high speed alternator
rotor shafts. Being able to analyze these types of critical
systems and produce PM machines which operate efficiently
and reliably, is a skill that Calnetix has mastered.
