Calnetix Technologies Engineers to Speak at International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings

August 7th, 2012

Cerritos, Calif. – August 6, 2012 – Two leading engineers from Calnetix Technologies, a pioneer in high-speed permanent magnet motor generators, power electronics and magnetic bearings for a variety of applications and industries, will be presenting at the 13th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings this week.

The paper topics “Long Term Backup Bearing Testing Results” and “Constant-Flux Edge Sensor” will be presented at the Arlington, Va., conference, dubbed the premier forum for discussing new advances and research results in the magnetic bearing field.

Larry Hawkins, Calnetix’s Co-Founder and Director of Technology for Magnetic Bearings will present the first paper, co-authored by Calnetix Co-Founder Patrick McMullen, on Tuesday afternoon. The paper presents the extensive testing of a backup bearing system used in energy storage flywheel systems for regeneration power and uninterruptable power supply applications.

On Wednesday afternoon, Calnetix’s Principal Research Engineer Alexei Filatov will present the second paper, co-authored by Hawkins, on the operating principle and experimental evaluation of one of Calnetix’s newest innovative developments in magnetic bearing technology - the constant-flux edge position sensor. This sensor offers a unique combination of advantageous properties not found collectively in other axial position sensing solutions.

“We are honored to present on a wide range of topics at this symposium and look forward to actively engaging with other experts in this highly specialized field,” said Vatche Artinian, Co-Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Calnetix.

The objective of the 13th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings is to discuss the latest research on magnetic bearings and to enhance the understanding of such technology worldwide. The conference will feature several kinds of presentations including plenary speeches, contributed and invited papers, application papers and special sessions.
