Calnetix Technologies Principal Research Engineer To Speak At ASME Turbo Expo in Copenhagen Tomorrow

June 14th, 2012

Cerritos, Calif. – June 13, 2012 – Alexei Filatov, Principal Research Engineer at Calnetix Technologies, a pioneer in high-speed permanent magnet motor generators, power electronics and magnetic bearings for a variety of applications and industries, will be presenting at the ASME Turbo Expo in Copenhagen tomorrow.

Entitled “Combination Axial and Radial Active Magnetic Bearing with Improved Axial Bandwidth,” the technical talk will occur Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the conference’s “Advanced Technologies – Bearings in their Controllable Forms” session.

“Homopolar Permanent-Magnet-Biased Combination Axial and Radial Electromagnetic Actuators used in Active Magnetic Bearings have several advantages over arrangements of separate axial and radial actuators, including improved rotordynamic response, shorter rotor length, and a reduced part count which can lower production cost,” said Filatov. “However, the combination actuators may require higher-order compensators in applications where significant dynamic axial loads must be reacted due to somewhat lower axial bandwidth. We’ve developed a solution to improve axial bandwidths of combo actuators and evaluated it in a test actuator with 3000N axial and 1200N radial load capacities. The results were a 7db gain and 15 degree phase improvement at 30Hz.”

ASME Turbo Expo delegates represent an impressive, global array of segments from throughout the Gas, Steam & Wind Turbine, Fan & Blower and Solar Brayton & Rankine Cycle communities with major influence on developing trends and products. The five-day technical conference includes in-depth workshops and exhibitions on the latest trends in turbine product and services.
