Intellectual Property Protection

CALNETIX Proprietary Technology brings unique, cost effective solutions that are not available elsewhere in the marketplace!

The technology in Calnetix’s high speed motors, generators, and magnetic bearing products are protected through component and system level patents. Calnetix patented technology offers the following benefits to customer applications:

  • Core and system level technologies are in scalable configurations for addressing a broad market including size ranges from 1KW to 20MW
  • Configurations and construction offer performance and cost advantages
  • Core patented products provide significant advantages for new product introduction

The company has filed system level patents in the United States, as well as internationally, on various systems. These system level patents, combined with design and manufacturing know-how and proprietary processes, make it extremely difficult and expensive for any competitor to duplicate Calnetix’s technology.

Calnetix high speed motor, generator and magnetic bearing construction is also protected by proprietary design and manufacturing methods. The design of each system is conducted with analysis codes that have been developed in-house and are based on years of experience. Calnetix possesses unique design and manufacturing processes which include the following:

  • Steel sleeving for high speed two pole rotor topology
  • Proprietary process for graphite sleeving of high speed rotor topology.
  • Stator winding and end turn forming for low loss and high power density
  • Magnetic bearing integration and assembly

Calnetix possesses proprietary software that is used both in the development of the company’s products, as well as in the products themselves. A sampling of the software includes:

  • Design and analysis software
    • In-house developed analytical tools for the design of permanent magnet motors, generators and magnetic bearing actuators.
    • In-house developed rotordynamic analysis software which incorporates magnetic bearing performance characteristics to predict performance and system stability in all operating conditions.
    • High speed rotor stress analysis for sleeving fit and bearing component fittings.
    • Complete thermal analysis of the rotating components.
  • Operational software
    • Magnetic bearing control system software for high speed, high performance magnetic bearings which includes open loop compensation for no-vibration and low bearing loads.
    • Motor control software for sensored and sensorless motor drives for high speed permanent magnet machines. This line of motor drives which is specifically for high speed permanent magnet systems offers higher efficiencies.
  • Testing software
    • Diagnostics software for power and energy measurement of high performance systems.
    • Graphical user interface for magnetic bearing performance and interface, allowing for updating of control system and review of performance data.
    • Control system interface for command and communication between the facility, power electronics, and magnetic bearings.
