Satellites transmit high-speed data and video to governments, businesses and consumers, as well as transmit signals for broadcast and communications services.
Flywheel systems comprised of Calnetix Magnaforce™ permanent magnet motor generators and Powerflux™ active magnetic bearings have been used to power satellite operations. While the satellite is in orbit, solar panels charge the flywheel systems, which store energy, and when isolated from the sun, the flywheels release the stored energy to power the satellite.
In addition, Calnetix’s high-speed flywheel technologies enable greater gyroscopic momentum and motion, altitude and tilt control in a smaller footprint than conventional systems. Calnetix motor generator systems are compact, lightweight, require minimal maintenance and provide freedom from lubricants and other potential contaminants, making them ideal for satellite applications.
