Business Development Engineer

We are currently seeking a Business Development Engineer to support the Defense and Aerospace business unit. This role will offer an opportunity in an energetic and diverse environment, interfacing with internal and external customers in various emerging technologies.

The Business Development Engineer will be responsible for generating and following up on aerospace/defense leads. In this position, you will work with the Calnetix marketing and engineering teams to provide solutions to aerospace/defense contractors, create detailed proposals and identify potential development or supply contracts. Specific responsibilities also include developing new applications, working with consultants, developing appropriate sales processes, customer relations and marketing communications. The individual must be willing and able to travel frequently both domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop business cases and coordinate proposal efforts. Work with customers to define project scope, deliverables, and specifications.
  • Perform market research and analysis to understand the applicable markets and potential customers for Calnetix’ diverse technologies
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams to bring ideas from concept through contract
  • Support the negotiation of development agreements and supply contracts
  • Work with the Calnetix marketing team to develop marketing campaigns and materials for new applications and services such as e-media, press kits, brochures, technical papers, technical seminars and trade shows

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical/Electrical/Systems) with 5+ years of experience (will consider 3 years of relevant experience in closely related field)
  • Experience in Defense & Aerospace industries is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex projects and teams with professionalism, collaboration, and persistence
  • Strong technical writing skills; ability to write clearly and succinctly in a manner that appeals to a wide audience
  • Ability to convey messages and engage in technical and business discussions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to present and develop rapport with audience while explaining complex concepts and processes  
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the power of positive persuasion
  • Must have the initiative and dynamism to execute and take ownership
  • Evaluate options, propose solutions and make decisions when required.
  • Must be capable of coordinating a project team

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

  • Time will be split between office/desk and customer sites.
  • Up to 40% travel may be required, domestic and international
