Machinist

We are currently seeking a Machinist, whose overall responsibility will be to perform a skilled level of work in the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of a variety of metal parts, tools, and equipment. The machinist sets up and operates a variety of machine tools.  The machinist also fits and assembles parts to make or repair machine tools and maintains industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The Machinist must employ a high degree of accuracy and precision in performing work according to instructions and specifications. 

Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate the following equipment:lathe, mill, surface grinder, cylinder grinder (ID & OD), drill press, cutoff saw, bench grinders, bench sanders, and tool grinders

  • Confer with supervisor to exchange technical information

  • Design fixtures and tools as needed in order to fabricate parts

  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs

  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 2 years of experience as a skilled machinist and completion of a recognized machinist apprenticeship program, or 5 years of experience as a skilled machinist. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

  • Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the machinist’s trade

  • Familiar with the hazards and safety precautions of the machinist’s trade

  • Ability to use graphic instructions, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or other visual aids to create parts

  • Ability to inspect parts using conventional inspection equipment (i.e. calipers, micrometers, height gage, comparator, dial indicators, etc.)

  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others

  • Make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects (i.e. working with very small drills and micrometers)
