We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a technical background. The ideal candidate has the desire and capability to be an integral part of the mechanical design team, with the goal of developing into a design lead for new developments using the company’s core technology. The job will require understanding of the development objectives and applying strong fundamental engineering expertise to support the design of the product. In this position, you will execute the design for designated projects from inception through the specification, design, fabrication, validation and testing, while taking advantage of the expertise of the core engineering team from a design technical perspective.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Application of engineering principles and established engineering norms to design.

  • Conceptualization of new designs based on existing proven designs and innovations.

  • Evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability.

  • Ensure optimum manufacturing efficiency and costs in design.

  • Lead mechanical design and electronics packaging development activities in SolidWorks from concept through production releases.

  • Technical oversight (including design tradeoffs, manufacturability, stack-up analyses, etc.) and review of the design for both internal and external reviews.
  • Design contribution to the core engineering team and development in new areas of expertise.

  • Support technical risk identification, mitigation plans, as well as development and execution of alternate design approaches.

  • Take design ownership on projects as well as engineering signature approval on mechanical drawings.

  • Ensure timely completion of project design deliverables, including design drawings, analysis and other documentation as required.

  • Must be flexible and willing to go beyond general job responsibilities.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree with minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting thermal management, shock/vibration robustness, EMI-conscious packaging, and environmental sealing solutions.
  • Experience with PCB/PWA integration and high voltage electronics packaging with wiring according to IPC/WHMA-A-620.
  • Experience designing electronics packaging with challenging aerospace and/or defense requirements and meeting industry relevant standards e.g. MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-5400, or RTCA DO-160.
  • Experience with IP ratings per IEC 60529 and how they are achieved in practice.
  • Firm capability to conduct/check structural and thermal simulations and support with hand calculations and solid rationale.
  • Understanding of engineering material selection and how to apply.
  • Understanding of basic electrical components and functions.
  • Experience with best practices of cable harnesses and routing.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T standards per ASME Y14.5 and application to new designs.
  • Hands-on engineer with the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practice
  • Hands-on troubleshooting capability, including the use of standard inspection tools and the ability to do spot check inspections on shop floor of critical components.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. using proper lifting techniques.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection or masks may be required in some production areas.
  • Work safely around objects that can be highly magnetized.
  • Work safely around high voltages.
  • Depending on the phase of the project, the incumbent’s time may be split between office/desk, shop floor, and off-site activities.

Salary Range:

  • $150,000 - $180,000
