Manufacturing Engineer - Machining

The overall responsibility of the Manufacturing Engineer - Machining is to oversee all processes to produce machined parts utilized in Calnetix high speed motors, generators, power electronics and magnetic bearing systems.  The Manufacturing Engineer – Machining is responsible for the machine tools, programs, setup/operating documents, machine tooling/fixtures and safety. The Manufacturing Engineer – Machining works closely with production personnel and engineering for successful system design integration, cost reduction, improved lead times, delivery and support of component and assembly fabrication. .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Establish processes, specify equipment/tooling and manage all aspects of CNC/Conventional machining operations to ensure quality, safety and efficiency.
  • Prepare/Manage document packages for machining/fabrication (e.g. machining layouts, machine programs and equipment setup/operation procedures).
  • Design tooling and fixtures required for machining components.
  • Improve overall machining processes and procedures to reduce cost and lead time.
  • Manage CNC programming code, utilization, and storage.
  • Recommend, purchase, and coordinate installation of capital equipment and tooling.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Requires BS degree in a technical field (Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive and related experience required.
  • 3D & 2D design/drafting skills per ASME Y14.5M (SolidWorks preferred)
  • CNC Lathe programming experience required (Esprit preferred).
  • CNC Lathe setup and operation experience required (DMG Mori NLX3000 and Mori Seiki NL2500 preferred).
  • CNC/Conventional cylindrical grinding experience is a plus (Studer preferred, knowledge of StuderWIN/Pictogram programming a plus).
  • Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Open to developing new skills and take on new responsibilities.
  • Good interpersonal and interfacing skills a plus (i.e. communicating well with people across different departments both internally and externally)
  • Additional computer skills:  Microsoft Office Suite

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None, but will work closely with production leads and technicians.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Time will be split between office and shop floor. 
  • Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, or masks are required in some assembly areas.
  • Frequent:  Sitting, forward bending, squatting, overhead reaching, standing, walking, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Lift and Carry 50 lbs.:  Floor to waist and back to floor.
  • Have moderate level of hand to eye coordination and dexterity including (picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive flexion/rotation).
  • Noise level may be high.
  • Some occasional exposure to dust/fumes/odor/grease/oil/chemicals
  • Work in hot/cold temperature.
  • Work around objects that can be very sharp.
  • Work around objects that can be highly magnetized.

Salary Range:

$90,000 - $120,000 per year
