CERRITOS, Calif. – July 14, 2025 – Calnetix Technologies has been awarded a Direct to Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract valued at $2 million under topic A244-P038 to develop a bi-directional inverter system for hybrid-electric vehicles and tactical microgrid applications.
This Phase II effort builds on Calnetix’s proven inverter technology to develop a fully integrated, 60 kW inverter capable of both DC→AC export power and AC→DC rectification with high temperature operation. The modular design, built using high-power-density SiC MOSFETs, will also comply with the Tactical Microgrid Standard (TMS) for seamless deployment across Army microgrid and vehicle platforms.
“Our bi-directional inverter is the keystone of tomorrow’s hybrid-electric and expeditionary power architectures,” Vatche Artinian, CEO of Calnetix. “This SBIR Phase II award enables us to transition from concept to prototype, delivering a scalable, rugged solution that gives soldiers uninterrupted power, whether on the move or in remote base-camp operations.”
Upon successful completion of Phase II, Calnetix will transition its inverter from prototype to a production-ready product aligned with the Army’s Operational Energy roadmap. The system will deliver reliable exportable power, rapid grid synchronization, and mission-ready performance across multiple ground vehicle platforms.
