Access Energy to Showcase Active Magnetic Bearing Supported Integrated Power Module

CERRITOS, Calif. – Aug. 7, 2018 – Calnetix Technologies will present a paper on active magnetic bearing technology and subsidiary Access Energy will showcase an active magnetic bearing supported Integrated Power Module at the 16th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB16) in Beijing, China.

Rasish Khatri, Lead Engineer and Larry Hawkins, Director of Technology, Magnetic Bearings, will deliver a paper on August 16 entitled, “Applicability of API 617 8th Edition and ISO 14839-3 in Evaluating the Dynamic Stability of AMB-Supported Compressors.”

The Calnetix paper reviews and compares the dynamics requirements included in API 617 8th Edition Annex E with those of ISO 14839-3. The authors analyze the stability criteria of both standards by simulating the synchronous response, sensitivity transfer function and closed-loop transfer function of simple 1-D dynamic systems.

“There is a growing demand for oil free systems in multiple industries - compressors, blowers, chillers and other turbomachinery,” said Vatche Artinian, CEO of Calnetix. “The bearings form the backbone of high-speed turbomachinery, and Calnetix is uniquely positioned to provide cost-effective integral drive solutions for turbomachinery on our Powerflux™ magnetic bearings.”

“We are utilizing Calnetix’s magnetic bearings in our Carefree™ Integrated Power Module (IPM), which is the heart of our Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems that are designed to tap into the extra low temperature heat sources available for power production,” said Venky Krishnan, Vice President of Access Energy. “With one moving part, and no physical bearing contact, the IPM provides exceptional reliability in a very small footprint.”

Access Energy will showcase its Carefree™ IPM and ORC systems at Booth # 530. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the display to learn more about these technologies and solutions.

The ISMB16 will take place Aug. 13-17 at the Beijing International Convention Center. The primary aim of ISMB conferences is to promote scientific and technological exchanges among researchers and engineering practitioners around the world.
