Power electronics are very heavy.

Calnetix’s off-the-shelf Vericycle™ Bidirectional Drives range from 4lb/kW to 7lb/kW depending on the type of cooling and kW output of the system. Calnetix can also provide custom packaging that will result in weight savings to meet customer requirements.

 

Power electronics are very large and bulky.

Calnetix’s off-the-shelf Vericycle™ Bidirectional Drives range from 200in3/kW to 400in3/kW depending on the type of cooling and kW output of the system. Calnetix can also provide custom packaging that will result in space savings to meet customer requirements.

 

Power electronics equipment typically needs to have a special liquid cooling system.

Calnetix’s power electronics drives of 125 kW and above require liquid cooling (water or water/glycol mix) for the power switches and forced air cooling for the magnetics within the drive.

 

Power electronics equipment typically does not provide both motoring and generating capabilities.

Calnetix’s power electronics drives are bidirectional; therefore, they are fully capable of operating machines as motors and generators.

 

Not all industries accept high-speed power electronics.
